Do Eyebrows Grow Back After Chemotherapy

By Amanda Baird

Cancer patients who go through chemotherapy treatments will typically lose the hair on their body. This happens because the chemo kills fast growing cancer cells as well as other fast growing cells in the body. The treatment does not distinguish between healthy cells and cancer cells. Although this side affect can be upsetting to most people, it is not permanent. Folks who are concerned about the loss of body hair will often ask do eyebrows grow back after chemotherapy. The answer to that inquiry is yes.

Because each person is different the length of time it takes for hair to grow back after treatment ends will vary. Regrowth will also depend on the type of drugs that were used in the treatment. Some chemotherapy cocktails are not as strong as others. Depending on the potency of the drugs some folks may lose all their hair within two weeks following the first treatment or not until after the second round.

It is very common for people to lose eyelashes, nasal hair, the hair on their heads, and eyebrows. It is possible to make hair loss not so noticeable for those who are bothered by it. The use of eyebrow pencils is used by many women as a part of their daily makeup routine. The pencil enhances the natural brow and can also alter the shape.

The same technique can be used to give the illusion of eyebrows during treatment. Keep in mind that you want to imply that you have eyebrows so it is important to draw them on lightly. Using the pencil too heavily will not look as natural or attractive.

While going through treatments your skin may begin to look ashy or chalky in color. Make up can help make you feel much better about these changes caused by treatment. Select soft or muted colors to avoid looking made up. Using dark or bright colored makeup will be obvious and will not appear natural.

It is also a good idea to use this tactic if you decide to wear wigs while having treatments. It is best to avoid wearing wigs that have dark hair. Select hair that is a little lighter than your regular color. Blond haired people will not need to worry about this if they stay with their natural color.

When the question of eyebrow regrowth is presented to different people the answer might be both yes and no. This is because there may be varying degrees of fullness. Again, everyone is different so the amount of hair that returns will also vary. Some folks may find that they need to continue using a cosmetic pencil to give the appearance of full brows. Still, others will see no difference between the regrowth and their original brows.

Many people ask about the regrowth of other body hair and never question do eyebrows grow back after therapy is over. This may be because there are so many other things on their mind that the question never occurs to them. Once the hair loss happens folks will typically ask about the regrowth of brows and lashes.
